The Battle of the Wizards
More Harry Potter hype. This is an entry from my old, abandoned blog which I thought deserved more attention.
I read Harry Potter and the Lord of the Rings trilogy and one question is burning in my mind: who would win in a showdown between Dumbledore and Gandalf? I’ve made an analysis based on the skills I believe is important to a wizard.
Spell Casting:
Both of these guys are masters of the magical arts. The duel between Dumbledore and Voldemort (The Order of the Phoenix) in the Ministry of Magic revealed Dumbledore’s prowess and the showdown between Gandalf and the Balrog of Morgoth (Fellowship of the Ring) in the Mines of Moria showed us Gandalf in all his glory. Its hard to decide which one is more spectacular so the result is a tie.
Kicking @$$:
If it ever got down to a street fight between these two, I’d put my money on Gandalf. Let’s face it, he owned the Balrog in that fight (while they were falling down an bottomless pit!!). I don’t recall Dumbledore ever getting down and dirty. So the Heavy Weight Championship of the Wizards goes to GAN-DAAALFF!
Wisdom:
And when I say wisdom I mean the cool quotes that they say. This one goes to Dumbledore because Gandalf doesn’t seem to say much. The most poignant Gandalf quote is “…So do all who live to face such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.” Dumbledore has a number of quotes up his sleeve like “It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.” (there are more quotes here.)
But in the end Gandalf emerges the overall winner because Dumbledore friggin’ dies (if you haven’t read the 6th book then I’m really sorry). So this is how I envisage a battle between these two legends.
First Gandalf would say ‘I am a servant of the Secret Fire, wielder of the flame of Anor. You cannot pass.” and then break the ground under them which would cause Dumbledore to fall down and lose his wand. But right before he loses his wand, he casts a Banishing Charm which makes Gandalf’s wand fly away. Then Gandalf would whip out Glamdring (his sword) and advance on Dumbledore to make the killing blow, Dumbledore would say something like “It’s the unknown we fear when we look upon death and darkness, nothing more.” which would trigger a debate on the ‘Nature of Death’ between the two wizards which ofcourse Gandalf would lose and in a fit of rage Gandalf slit Dumbledore’s throat and everyone will live happily ever after (except for Dumbledore who would be dead by then).

Why did you even repost this?

It was funny. I loved it.
June 13th, 2007 at 1:36 pm
Right…
June 14th, 2007 at 5:52 pm
I’m with Arun. It’s funny, yes.
June 15th, 2007 at 11:02 pm
You’re just hoping he’ll update more. You’re wrong.
June 16th, 2007 at 1:35 pm
Dammit! How’d you know?
June 16th, 2007 at 11:53 pm
Simple minds are easy to understand.
June 17th, 2007 at 12:56 pm
Haha, funny
Good one. Even if “not original”.
June 17th, 2007 at 8:22 pm
I wasn’t joking really.
June 17th, 2007 at 8:58 pm
Sick you are. Dumbledore’s my favorite person in the entire series of HP and you didn’t even give him a decent death!!

June 18th, 2007 at 3:35 pm
Dude she implied she didn’t like it.
Oh, Snape was my favourite. He still is. Dumbly-dorr is a wuss.
June 18th, 2007 at 10:58 pm
I agree with you if it’s the on-screen one you say.
June 19th, 2007 at 3:44 am
Which on screen one? There were two remember?
June 19th, 2007 at 3:44 pm
I like the actor and the character in the book.
June 19th, 2007 at 11:05 pm
Don\’t diss the post, its awesome.
Dumbledore didn\’t get a decent death in the book, he doesn\’t get a decent death in the blog. Stupid J.K. Rowling.
June 20th, 2007 at 3:30 am
Shall I go ahead and diss your punctuation then?
June 20th, 2007 at 7:45 am
The one in the first two was brilliant. I meant the other one.
June 20th, 2007 at 2:42 pm
Go ahead Anusha.
June 21st, 2007 at 1:40 pm
Yeah, Arun’s right. The first Dumbledore seemed nice. The new one just seems all rude. Umm, I already did, Marc.
June 23rd, 2007 at 3:20 am
Old Dumbledore = Richard Harris
New Dumbledore = Sir Ian McKellen
Yeah, the new Dumbledore is very jumpy and mean. Not at all the calm and dependable wizard he’s supposed to be. And where did they get the idea for the beard ring? Ugh!
June 24th, 2007 at 10:35 pm
Sir Ian Mckellen is not the new dumbledore!! He’s a fantastic actor who would have done more justice to that character if he had been cast. The new one is Micheal Gambon.
June 25th, 2007 at 12:43 am
Ian Mckellan is the guy who plays Magneto in X Men. Tsk tsk, Suren.
June 25th, 2007 at 6:53 pm
Just be glad I got the first one at least right.
June 26th, 2007 at 3:37 am
You aren’t even worthy enough of being a HP fan. OR an X-Men fan. You shouldn’t be allowed to read fantasy or science fiction from now on!!
June 26th, 2007 at 7:15 pm
The original movie Dumbly-dorr died right?
Anyway, who made you the expert in sci fi and fantasy, Anusha?
June 26th, 2007 at 7:43 pm
Magneto is always the win. Except for juggernaut. Juggernaut is always the win.
June 27th, 2007 at 3:24 am
No, Sentinel always wins.

June 27th, 2007 at 3:29 am
Stop calling him Dumbly-dorr Marc. You’re not French. I’m no expert, but I know enough to point out an error.
June 27th, 2007 at 1:57 pm
I like that name better.
So you’re saying Sentinel wouldn’t win?!
July 1st, 2007 at 10:31 am
I didn’t say that. I just pointed out an error in the PREVIOUS message! Dumdum.
July 1st, 2007 at 3:24 pm
So you agree that Sentinel would totally win then.
July 1st, 2007 at 11:13 pm
No to that one either. I choose to remain opinion-less here.
July 2nd, 2007 at 6:27 pm
Ha, opinion-less person. Cower before me!
